What is asmākam paramparā?

asmākam paramparā is an initiative blessed by Jagadguru Sri Sankara Vijayendra Saraswathi Sankaracharya Swamigal of Moolamnaya Sri Kanchi Kamakoti Peetham, to educate children and young adults about their ancestry and instill pride in their heritage

What information do parents and children need to prepare?

• Pick one side of the family at a time- names of grandparents and/or great grandparents

• Name of their ancestral village, where are they located? Any stories about the village that you have heard of?

• Which rivers flow through/around it?

• Mark the village geographical location and rivers on a 8x11 map of Bharatam

• Who is the grama devata of that village? How are they worshiped? What are the rituals for them? Share 2-3 pics

• Name some temples in the graamam? Who are the gods? Share 2-3 pictures

• Who are your kula deivam-s in your mother's and father’s family? Where are the temples for them located? What are the rituals, prasadam and other interesting facts about the kula deivam-s

• What is something unique about your graamam? - food, craft, festival, celebrations etc

• Pictures associated with your project - temples, river banks, graamam homes and people, farms etc

Where can children share their stories?

Children can present their stories at events in a local satsangam in their region or at any virtual satsangam-ss they are part of. Videos of the presentation may be submitted to be uploaded to our Youtube channel as well.

What mediums can we use to submit our graamam?

Children are free to use their creativity to share their stories. Mediums such as PowerPoint decks, short videos, tri-fold boards, essays with illustrations and many other mediums can be explored 

How many villages can we talk about?

Participants can research any number of their ancestral villages. However, we recommend presenting one village at a time in each presentation/video.

Is there a minimum age to participate?

While there is no age limit per se, the participant needs to be able to talk and share their story

Is there a time limit for each presentation/video?

There are no strict time restrictions but we suggest a maximum of 10-12 minutes per graamam

How do we participate?

1. Submit the registration form at bit.ly/asmakamparampara

2. You can email the material in the form of an mp4 video and/or a PowerPoint deck or pdf  to kalainiraifoundation@gmail.com to be added to our Youtube and other channels

3. Submissions will be periodically posted in Bala Hanuman and Kanchi NRI Digital Newsletter which is published with the blessings and guidance of His Holiness
